Abstract In modern world, cities go beyond countries and are upgrading their status to specific competing units, and their importance is increasing as spatial units for differentiation through competition. In the face of such a change, the previous state-led urban regeneration policy cannot perform its original purpose and function. Thus, town management is being discussed as a new planning model for urban regeneration that can be conducted as community-based and community-driven implementation. So, this study aims to identify the ways ahead for future South Korean urban regeneration projects by figuring out the concepts, components, practical models of town management as a method to realize sustainable urban regeneration. The local values of survey results which summarize the opinions of the entire group appeared in the order of funding (0.300), consensus building (0.297), organization (0.214), and regional activities (0.189). To ensure successful implementation of future urban regeneration projects, this paper argues that it is necessary to provide systematic supports for building consensus among stakeholders, organizing professional operation system, finding alternative funding resources and supporting regional activities for sustainable town management.
