Abstract The purpose of this study is to demonstrate residents’ satisfaction with the Desired Area Project, to derive factors that can increase the level of resident’ satisfaction from cross-regional comparisons, and to suggest improvement measures based on the regional characteristics of the Desired Area Project and the Urban Regeneration Project in the future. Common factors that affected the overall satisfaction of the Desired Area Project were identified, the community gatherings.
In Songjeong-dong the main factors were community promotion and site base, while in Seongnae2-dong the main influencing factors were the village festival and community education. In areas where conflicts exist due to different opinions among residents, such as Songjeong-dong, the process of understanding and encouraging participation should be prioritized. And, every project in the areas needs to be implemented in consideration of providing a community gathering opportunity. In areas where there have been previous community activities, such as Seongnae2-dong, the government should prioritize the implementation of resident-participating projects through which residents can be educated and promoted to enhance their competency for the projects.
