Abstract |
This study elucidates the characteristics of walking activities such as the range of activity using GPS data to examine urban design development for elderly residents. For perceived neighborhood living zone of elderly residents, a mapping survey showed an average area of 191,279㎡, expressed as “my neighborhood” based on a central facility or street. The range of daily living area derived from GPS data was 182,610㎡, and relative to the perceived neighborhood living zone, the average degree of the overlap was 32.9%, which was different from the perceived neighborhood living zone and the actual living range. An analysis of elderly walking distance based on the histogram showed their walking distance mode to be approximately 300~350 m. These results suggest a need to set the elderly daily living area to be smaller than that proposed by existing neighborhood theories. |
