Abstract The aim of this study is to examine what factors affecting an image of the day and night streetscape of Insa-dong. The day and night streetscape pictures, luminance and color temperature of lightings were measured at eight locations in Insa-dong. 173 participants answered the survey. Aesthetics and activity were derived as dependent variables. This study used a pixel of the physical environment such as building, sign and green area from pictures as the independent variables which may affect the street image. Additionally, luminance, color temperature deviations of the lighting were used. As a result, different factors affect the street image at day and night. During the day, the green and building environment factors have an effect on the street image but the lighting environment was more important at night. These results suggest especially, streetscape management should be systematically managed according to time.
