Abstract The purpose of this study was to derive the change of urban morphology and to suggest the direction to grow into a socially sustainable city. Urban form is not merely a physical element, but also a unique historical resource with its uniqueness, locality and time. Therefore, a city to grow sustainably, it is necessary to consider its urban morphology and must be reflected in the urban design process.
Haeundae-gu Udong has undergone many changes in the shape and size of the street, land, and buildings based on river straightening, coastal landfill, and airfield transition. The streets and fields have been latticed and subdivided, and the buildings have become large and tall. However, the uniqueness and historicity of the region could not be found due to these morphological changes. In conclusion, this research proposes, the direction of urban design that could be the basis for the more sustainable growth Haeunda-gu.
