Abstract The factory has been developed through the process of upgrading the industrial revolution, and has been growing mainly in cities with easy access to human resources & infrastructure. However, the factories with low productivity are far away from the city, and the necessary industrial facilities in the city have been developed as vertical factories in the form of intensive apartments. Initial apartment factories were built with cargo-oriented plans to move for manufacturing industry, improving productivity & urban aesthetics. After IMF, in accordance with the industrial policy, apartment-type factories were allowed to move into IT and information industry other than the manufacturing industry. In 2010, it was renamed to the Knowledge Industry Center according to the industrial policy focused on the knowledge industry, and evolved into a building representing the knowledge industry. Through the private developmnt, it has achieved large-scale and high-class, and under the policy of new growth engine industry, various knowledge industry companies are occupied. It is diversifying its role, such as the development of a public knowledge industry center to next-generation industries. The role of the knowledge industry center has been changed from time to time in line with contemporary industrial policies, and the function is continuously growing in line with the urban industry paradigm.
