| Abstract |
Since Vietnam has experienced a remarkable economic growth alongside rapid urbanization, the shortage of affordable housing became a critical issue today. This study aims to examine social housing supply problems of Vietnam through the analysis of social housing policies with in-depth interviews from various professionals of housing developments in Vietnam. Results show that the economic feasibility of social housing projects is not guaranteed for private developers due to various restrictions on legal approval process, and lack of financial packages.
Institutionally, there is ambiguity in housing laws and regulations which are readily interpreted for the administration convenience from public sectors. Therefore, government should develop various economic incentives for active involvement of private sectors and improve social housing policies. This study has a significant implication to institutional improvement of social housing development in Vietnam. |
