Abstract |
Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, has been undergoing a rapid urbanization over the past decade along with land privatization, causing problems such as reckless development in the Ger area and lacking urban infrastructure. In particular, the problem of regional disparities is causing problems of social equity with the widening gap such as, income inequality. Along with the continued expansion of Ulaanbaatar, infrastructure should also be expanded, but the problem of regional disparities is deepening due to the difficulties in widening public services. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the population, industry-economy, housing and educational facility and to derive the characteristics of regional disparities by classifying regions according to residential type and autonomous region. The results of the study are as follows. First, the degree of urbanization by region and expansion of the Ger area has been shown a significant impact on regional disparities. The disparities in industry-economy and housing sectors have been higher in Ger area than apartment area. Second, in both industry-economy and housing sectors, the autonomous districts in out-of-town area have been more underdeveloped than the autonomous districts in the city center, which has been largely affected by lack of infrastructure in urban sprawl. Finally, regional disparities have been more intensified because urban plans in Ulaanbaatar have not taken into account the characteristics of each district. |
