Abstract Since supplier and customer factors have an effect together on the formation of placeness, it is necessary to consider both sides for a better understanding of the changes in the placeness. Therefore, this study examines the process of vitalization and changes in the placeness on commercial streets?with a case of Gyeongridan-gil and Ikseon-dong since they have different spatial and cultural backgrounds?based both on the indicators of suppliers and customers, the latter of which are based on social media data. Analytical results show that customer experiences centered on the aesthetic aspect, consistently forms a superficial sense about local backgrounds of each area. It accordingly suggests policy-making aimed at overcoming the uniformity of local businesses that are highly focused on food and beverage stores and at developing local attractions that are linked to the spatial and historical backgrounds.
