Abstract The master plan competitions for the 3rd generation new towns hosted by LH were to require three-dimensional urban space planning for an integrated plan for urban and architecture, with the lessons learned from the 1st and 2nd generation new towns and the goal of social integration. ‘The Slothophical City’, the winning proposal for Namyangju Wangsuk2 District, created a human-scale and street-oriented city in which the city and nature can coexist, and provided a variety of housing types with alternative lifestyles. The significances and distinctions of the winning proposal are as follows. First, it is a new type of city model for the post-Covid19 era, by adjusting the natural terrain to good use in a small city, and providing a self-sufficient city environment through redefined public services and open space throughout the entire city. Second, it proposes the ‘Wangsuk Courtyard’, places for socializing and community activities surrounded by different housing typologies and programs. Third, the road network is sensitive to the topography and accommodated to smart traffic system customized for the era of self-driving vehicles. Last but not least, the master plan focused on urban sustainability by promoting the individual’s lifestyle, creating the community-driven industry and bring back natural environment.
