Abstract The purpose of this study is to propose strategies for an integrated waterfront design, which will enable to establish a region’s identity by utilizing its historical and cultural heritages. As for the methods employed, the research was conducted into historical and cultural heritages in the region; integrated design strategies were drawn up through the consultations with local residents; and a detailed final plan was presented. The following results were put forth by the method of integrated design: First, a plan was presented to connect Tapjeongho and its waterfront, which remained separate from the lake. Second, a tourist experience program, through which local residents, tourists and artists can communicate, was proposed. Third, each hub space was planned by utilizing natural landscape assets found in the vicinity of Tapjeongho ? 1) a space of enjoyment mainly consisting of natural landscape with a focus on the culture of noble scholars in Chosun dynasty 2) a thought-provoking space primarily featuring historical and cultural aspects, and 3) a relishing space mainly incorporating recreational and experience programs.
