Title A Study on the Design Plan for Neighborhood Street Space of Apartment Houses Applying Space Syntax

Abstract The study aims to suggest the design method for the neighborhood street space of apartment houses through Space Syntax, which predicts the pedestrian accessibility. The study analyze Suseo New Marriage Town that features the neighborhood streets. Applying the Axial Analysis of Space Syntax to the central neighborhood street, the integrated types of the inside and outside of street spaces, which has Semilattice street network systems, showed the highest average Integration-R3. It also predicted high pedestrian accessibility in the inside and central neighborhood streets. With these analyses, it is planned to allow frequent encounters between neighbors in daily life, by planning the shared community facilities on the place with the high accessibility from neighbors and childhood facilities on the inside neighborhood street with the community's high accessibility. The neighborhood street planning using Space Syntax in residential complex plan could examine the neighborhood street's activation in the planning process as it predicts the pedestrian accessibility based on the street system's spatial organization. In addition, Space Syntax could be diversely used for the pedestrian-friendly community planning, as it is a quantitative methodology based on pedestrian visibility and mobility.
