| Abstract |
This study aims to diagnose and position overtourism level in Jeju Island by using the WTTC(World Travel and Tourism Council) overtourism index and to classify 59 cities named by the WTTC. The WTTC’s nine overtourism diagnostic indicators were adopted to identify Jeju Island’s overtourism level and 60 cities with all nine indicators. Jeju Island and 59 foreign cities were classified according to the inconvenience of local residents, tourism and tourist. Three findings are as follows. First, the average overtourism value of the Jeju Island was 3.89 and higher than the average of 59 cities provided by WTTC(2.93). Second, when all 60 cities including Jeju Island were categorized according to inconvenience to local residents and to tourists and tourism, Jeju Island was found to belong to the top group. Third, Jeju Island is high score in the respect of tourist density, tourism intensity, negative Trip Advisor reviews, attraction concentration and historic site prevalence. |
