Abstract |
The aim of this paper is to reveal and interpret the characteristics of domestic public spaces, such as a hybrid of public and private realm in accordance with the progress of contemporary cities. First, the framework of analysis is established by applying the social and spatial characteristics of domestic contemporary cities and the concept of liminal space of cultural anthropology. Next, relationship between public space and liminal space, and characteristics of space with liminality were analyzed through a survey with a case study on the community corridor in multi-functional administrative city. The paper concludes that liminal space affects positively on the public space. In addition, active public space also have strong private characteristics. And the space mixed with public and private characteristics is more active and has strong public characteristics. This study is meaningful as basic data in the formation of public spaces in consideration of contemporary cities characteristics are analyzed. |
