Abstract |
Forming a cultural district is considered as one of the useful urban strategies of an urban regeneration project in many cities. But probable negative effects caused by transplanting different uses to an existing area is not seriously considered. This study chased the change of Pohang’s cultural district and found the problems of unexpected land-use change. Land-use was divided into culture-friendly and conflict groups, and their location densities for five years have been analyzed. As a result, not only friendly uses but also conflict uses were found to be forming an adverse territory. This means that regeneration projects can sometimes bring in undue side effects which weakens the purpose of itself. The results imply that a strategic plan considering consequent changes is required for the long-term success of an urban regeneration project. |
