Abstract This study analyzes data sets for training artificial intelligence to improve the pedestrian environment for children’s school zones and simulates it with digital twin technology. A walking environment with safety and comfort was designed by reviewing related theories and analyzing the target site, and the urban design suggestion was simulated by constructing it as a 3D virtual space. This study makes the following suggestions for improvement: (1) It is suggested that data sets for training artificial intelligence could be used as a urban design factor for creating a safe pedestrian environment. (2) Integration standards for street design are required to further promote safety in school zones. (3) It is required that simulation in a 3D virtual space be used to safe pedestrian environment applied smart technology. The uniqueness of this study is that introducing smart technology into reality-based spaces.
