Abstract This study aims to investigate the urban design process that uses a parametric methodology and to identify its implementation at the previous K-2 site in Daegu. With the 4th Industrial Revolution, open urban big data, and computer and digital technologies development, recent design projects and research have actively utilized computing techniques in architecture and urban design fields. The benefits of the parametric design are as follows. First, it helps develop a project from a macroscopic point of view. It also evaluates and compares different planning options derived through the computational process rationally and quickly. Second, as parametric design uses various urban factors as the input value for the designed algorithm, it reacts to environmental changes in the surrounding areas of the site. Lastly, the parametric design shapes a city form by adjusting various urban environmental factors that automatically create smooth forms and increase the linkage and consistency between the new design and surrounding environments. We found that the parametric methodology benefits in creating a city structure and system early in master plan development.
