Abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate outing behavior in the social distance during the COVID-19 using social networking service posts. Words collected from the Instagram posts with the hashtag ‘Daejeon Outing’ were classified into place types, outing purposes, emotions, and companions, followed by frequency analysis, sentiment analysis, and semantic network analysis. During COVID-19, the use of recreational facilities (green areas) has increased as a place for Daejeon outings, while the use of commercial areas has decreased. In particular, it was found that visiting green spaces in the Daejeon suburb was more active. Parenting and dating were the most frequently used purpose words prior to and during COVID-19. During COVID-19, the eigenvector centrality of eating out decreased while walking increased. The frequency and eigenvector centrality of words such as “celebrations” decreased significantly. In terms of emotions, negative scores increased slightly during the pandemic, and the companions were mostly limited to personal relationships between family members and lovers. The distinguished result in this study is the increase in the use of suburban green spaces, and through this, it suggested that the physical and functional connection of major green spaces in the Daejeon suburb should be dealt with more importantly in the city plan.
