| Abstract |
This study aims to analyze the current situation of bike lanes in Seoul from theperspective of public design. Based on ‘Seoul Public Design Guideline 2020’,‘Seoul Bike Lane Design and Maintenance Manual (2017)’, and ‘Global StreetDesign Guide (2016)’, three evaluation criteria, namely continuity, safety, anddomain, were developed. By referring to the ‘Seoul Bike Guide Map (2022)’, thelocations of bike lanes were identified and related photos were collected throughKakao Map Road View. The study results show that the network system of bikelanes in Seoul is not sufficient for continuous riding since there are interruptions inconflicting sections with adjacent street components such as sidewalks, roadways,green areas, and transportation facilities. There is an urgent need to improve thebike path infrastructure, such as lowering curbs of bicycle entrances, crosswalks, andintersections which involve a high risk of safety accidents. In addition, it isnecessary to provide comfort and enough space to secure the territoriality of thebike lanes through clear route indication. |
