Abstract |
With a purpose to prevent balloon effects of smoking, this study focused onsmoking areas installed on public streets and suggested directions for improvement. Satisfaction levels of users and passersby in three types of smoking areas wereinvestigated, and their differences were analyzed. Results presented that satisfactionlevels of the passersby were generally lower than those of the users, and also thatimprovements by obstructing smoke and odor were requested in all three types. Theusers most preferred line-type smoking areas that are completely open forventilation, while passersby most favored contact-free smoking ares that are fullyisolated. Future installment of smoking areas may actively adopt more contact-freetypes but at the same time incorporate relevant ventilation systems. Non-smokingareas should be expanded in public spaces, and smoking areas should also beconsistently improved to secure comfortable pedestrian environments in cities. |
