Abstract |
The outbreak and spread of COVID-19 has brought about many changes in the use of neighborhood parks and green spaces, such as a surge in park capacity, an increase in time spent in walking, and an increase in pedestrian traffic to neighborhood parks and green spaces. Despite the efforts to prevent the spread of infectious diseases by strengthening the public health system, the rapid spread of COVID-19 has changed the daily lives of urban residents. Although public parks and green spaces have become essential elements of daily life, the spatial level does not support this, and it is necessary to improve public parks and green spaces so that they can be used safely even in the era of infectious diseases. In this study, we derived improvement measures in terms of planning, design, and management to ensure safe and comfortable use of parks and green spaces during the outbreak of respiratory infectious diseases, and provided policy implications. It is necessary to consider the spread of respiratory infectious diseases from the planning stage of neighborhood parks and green spaces, and to design them so that they can be flexibly utilized. It is also necessary to establish a systematic and comprehensive operation strategy and management plan at the central and local government levels. |
