Abstract |
Providing a high-quality play environment is crucial for children’s development and growth. This study aims to analyze the environmental characteristics of outdoor play spaces and provide improvement implications to promote children’s spatial welfare. Various evaluation criteria for play environments were integrated to derive appropriate evaluation criteria applicable to low-rise sites for households with children. Five study sites with large populations of infants and children were selected, and data were collected and evaluated through field visits and GIS analysis. As a result, the children’s outdoor play space was generally good in terms of the quantity and quality of play equipment, convenience facilities, and maintenance. However, diversity of the play area, use of natural flooring, and installation of natural elements were found to be insufficient. Based on this, we propose matters that providers of outdoor play spaces should consider when managing and creating overall outdoor play spaces and the need for research on the sizea and barrier-free design of outdoor play spaces was presented. |
