Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to examine the relative characteristics of Gangnam’s Superblock by comparing it and Portland’s and Manhattan’s grid-types urban form. To summarize the results of the comparative analysis, first, in terms of density, Gangnam scored lower in all indicators than Manhattan, but compared to Portland, it was higher or similar in all indicators except commercial density. That is, the city is considered to have an adequate density level. Secondly, when it comes to diversity, Gangnam scored relatively lower in most indicators than Manhattan. Still, in comparison to Portland, it showed higher results in all indicators except for the commercial ratio to housing, meaning that it has a good level of diversity. Third, as to design, Gangnam has weaker conditions for making a pedestrian-friendly city than Portland and Manhattan, and particularly in the case of Hanti Station, there are many difficulties in making a pedestrian-friendly urban environment due to the increased block size, reduced number of intersections, lack of sidewalks, lack of bicycle paths, and the lack of pedestrian crossing and stops. |
