Abstract |
Since the first convenience store established in 1989, the number of convenience stores has rapidly increased, becoming a major type of retail store in Korea. Recently, with technological advancements and the widespread adoption of contactless, unmanned stores have been on the rise. However, research on the environmental factors influencing the unmanning of convenience stores is insufficient. Therefore, this study aims to identify the environmental characteristics influencing the unmanning of convenience stores. Spatial scope of study is Seoul, and unit of analysis is administrative Dong. The subject of the study is E-mart 24 convenience stores, where unmanned operation can be identified, and a Poisson regression model was used for the analysis. The results of the analysis are as follow. First, the number of residents and university students have a negative effect on the number of unmanned convenience stores. Second, the number of single-person households has a significant positive effect on the number of unmanned convenience stores. Third, public transportation accessibility have a significant positive effect on the number of unmanned convenience stores. Fourth, unmanned convenience stores are becoming more common in business districts in Seoul. |
