Abstract This study aims to objectively address the issue of enclosure in large-scale residential complexes that impact urban landscape and environment. The research developed an automated analysis technology to accurately measure enclosure ratios, a key factor in visual openness, and provided supporting data in reinstatinge the previously abolished regulation using 3D technology. The study focused on Seoulmitigated building interval regulations may have intensified enclosure issues. The study’s key findings are as follows. First, the study demonstrated the new 3D technical progress providing bases to reintroducing the abolished regulation and guides for future management od residental complex planning. Second, the study developed criteria for the quantitative evaluation of enclosure ratio in residential areas across all directions. Third, the study identified architectural factors affecting enclosure proposing proper directions for the guideline. This study provided essential data for policy making which enhance residents’ quality of life.
