Abstract |
This study analyzes the visiting experiences of foreign tourists in Seoul’s major tourist attractions using Tripadvisor review data and applies the BERTopic model to identify key characteristics of their tourism experiences. The study focuses on English-language reviews of major tourist sites in Seoul and examines changes in tourists' interests through a time-series analysis. The results reveal that foreign tourists' experiences are influenced by various factors, including historical and cultural elements, perceptions of congestion, natural landscapes, shopping, and experiential activities. Additionally, there were notable shifts in tourist interests before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, with an increasing preference for new tourism content and cultural experiences over shopping-centric activities. A comparison with topics extracted from domestic tourist reviews further highlights differences in key tourism experiences. While food, shopping, and historical sites emerged as common interests among both domestic and foreign tourists, domestic tourists showed a greater emphasis on leisure activities and emotional experiences in their everyday lives. This study underscores the potential of online review data for tourism research and provides valuable insights for the development of tourism policies and the improvement of tourist destinations in Seoul. |
