Abstract |
This study analyzes the structure and operation of Nagoya City’s unique “Certified Building Assets” and “Registered Building Assets” systems to draw policy implications for the conservation and utilization of architectural assets in Korea. The findings suggest that lowering entry barriers and encouraging voluntary applications, alongside planned surveys, can broaden citizen participation in asset selection. Local expert networks are recommended to provide consistent technical support and professional training. In addition, offering practical incentives, such as assistance with repairs, can motivate asset designation even for buildings of lesser prominence. Incorporating a landscape perspective enables the recognition of groups of buildings that collectively form valuable urban environments. These strategies underscore the role of architectural assets as urban heritage passed to future generations and provide practical guidance for enhancing the effectiveness and sustainability of Korea’s architectural asset management system. |
