| Abstract |
While multiple factors influence residential relocation, the educational environment is crucial for households with school-aged children. This study examined its impact on such households’ moves within Seoul Metropolitan Area districts from 2014-2023. Using origin-destination migration data and a general linear mixed-effect model to control for regional characteristics, the analysis bypassed aggregate statistics. The findings reveal that even after controlling for various regional disparities, educational differences significantly influence migration. Specifically, the density of private academies and the proportion of specialized high schools impact relocation choices. This can drive housing price increases and affordability issues, strengthening the link between educational environment and socioeconomic status, thus perpetuating inequality. Consequently, planning and educational policy interventions are needed to address the issue |
