| Abstract |
This study examines the roles of mediators in designing relationships in youth migration and settlement in regional areas. Despite growing interest in youth migration, research on relationship-building and long-term settlement remains limited. Using the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) framework, this study conducts a multiple-case analysis of Wanju, Sangju, and Goesan. The findings show that mediators function as “relational designers” who reinterpret local assets and support settlement through trust transfer and safety nets. Wanju developed cultural networks, Sangju fostered a mutual-care community, and Goesan promoted economic independence through business-oriented activities. As mediators critically mitigate migration risks, policy should shift from uniform support toward cultivating customized mediators and relationship-based assistance tailored to local assets. |
