Abstract In general, the open-phase current fault affects over the stator current and then introduces excessive torque oscillations leading to mechanical load defect and bearing premature failure etc. This paper proposes the open-phase current fault conditions for electric vehicle with motor control system and the applied fault diagnosis is performed with simple signal conditioning circuits without additional and complex detection software algorithms under vector control operation. For the validation, this paper proposes the results of three case studies for the open-phase current fault diagnostic method through the simulation.
