Abstract In this paper the complete EV charging data accumulated over 3 years in Jeju Island, a leading carbon-free island, were analyzed to uncover EV charging characteristics.
The fuel economy of EVs was at its minimum during the Spring and Autumn seasons, and it increased by about 20% during the coolest and the hottest months. The seasonal effects of the Time-of-Use (TOU) charging tariffs, which are intended to alleviate peak load, were almost negligible. However, in the case of slow chargers, over the period of 3 years, there was a trend of their charging energy increasing during off-peak hours, indicating a long-term responsiveness to the TOU tariffs. I believe that the introduction of effective TOU charging tariffs with a larger price difference is essential to establish an economical EV charging infrastructure.
Additionally, a policy that actively promotes the widespread adoption of private slow chargers with high charging load sharing rates during off-peak hours is necessary.
