Abstract This study presents a method for calculating the maximum renewable energy capacity that can be connected to substations under a flexible interconnection policy. The method takes into account annual output control rates, transformer failure conditions, the proportion of controllable renewable facilities, and output control implementation rates. A case study conducted on substations in Jeollanamdo, where renewable capacity is near saturation, confirmed that higher output control rates and an increased proportion of controllable facilities lead to more connectable capacity.
