Abstract |
Because data centers operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for uptime of IT equipment, they have a different pattern of energy use, than that of typical buildings. Air mixing in an IT server room is an irreversible process, leading to cooling energy loss, and efficient thermal management has significant impact on energy saving of cooling systems. In this paper, data center supporting infrastructure efficiency metrics, are reviewed at room and rack level respectively, to reflect locations and causes of inefficiency of cooling systems in data centers. Effectiveness of evaluation metrics is identified in a typical data center. The purpose of this paper is to use monitoring to improve robustness of energy efficiency assessment. The assessment method should be introduced, to combine measured data with calculations, and produce meaningful information that otherwise would have required extensive equipment. |
