Abstract According to the latest building energy conservation policy in Korea, the thermal performance standard of building envelope (u-value) in central region has been enhanced by 43% compared to the standards established in 2001. Also, the air-tightness of building envelope in these days has been improved by 83% to that of the built in 2001. As the building thermal performance improved, the cooling load of buildings decreased sharply. However, the KS standard for sizing capacity of air conditioner (KS C 9306) dose not take these changes into consideration. In this study, the changes of cooling capacity according to the changes of building thermal performance was analyzed. TRNSYS simulation was accomplished to analysis the cooling capacity for the analyzed cases in this study. The result showed that the cooling capacity based on the KS standard is about 38% higher than the cooling capacity based on the current building thermal performance.
