Abstract In this paper, energy analysis was numerically performed to estimate the cooling and heating loads of a rooftop greenhouse integrated with a commercial building. For the purpose, we developed a building energy simulation model, and calculated the cooling and heating loads using a commercial tool, TRNSYS. Energy analysis for a greenhouse and supermarket was also conducted for the comparison. Based on the numerical results, when energy transfer between the rooftop greenhouse and supermarket was facilitated efficiently, the annual heating load and total load were significantly reduced compared to a glass greenhouse and supermarket. It was found that the reduction rates of the heating and total loads were 14.0% and 10.2%, respectively. Also, the peak load of heating equipment could be reduced as 5.7%. Additionally, the effect of the set temperature inside the rooftop greenhouse on building cooling and heating loads was investigated, and it was demonstrated that the reduction rates of annual heating and cooling loads were significantly differed depending on the cultivated crops in the greenhouse.
