Abstract |
Increasing heat dissipation of many applications requires more efficient active cooling technology. Conventional liquid-cooling systems show low temperature uniformity and excessive pressure drops at a high flow rate. Two-phase cooling systems have been widely studied as an alternative because of their high thermal and hydraulic performance. In this study, the thermal and hydraulic characteristics of the two-phase cooling system are investigated experimentally using R-245fa as a working fluid. The heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of flow boiling in the cold plate were measured by varying the charge amount of the working fluid, pump rotating speed, and heater power of a cold plate. Compared with the conventional water-cooling system of similar thermal resistance, the two-phase cooling system demonstrated 27.3% more uniform temperature distribution with 85.7% less pumping power. |
