Abstract The purpose of this study was to compare the thermal performance of the floor heating system using PCM with the general system when the heating operation schedule is applied, and to provide basic data to improve the applicability and comfort of the PCM. To achieve this, the boiler was operated on and off (run-30 minutes, stop -four hours, five hours) and the indoor air and floor surface temperature changes during the non-operation time were checked. Room 1 has a general floor heating system and Room 2 has an additional PCM installed. The result can be summarized as follow. The floor surface temperature was 1.05℃ higher in Room 2 (PCM) than Room 1 (normal), and the room air temperature was 0.25℃ higher in Room 2 (PCM). Additionally, the time-lag that indicates the heat storage performance was calculated as the time recorded for the floor surface temperature to drop 1℃ from the highest temperature. In the room where the PCM was installed (Room 2), the temperature delay (average 22.5 minutes) occurred.
