Abstract This study classified the types of platforms into two types to check the change of ASET and RSET according to the PSD installation in the event of fire, and analyzed the fire and evacuation characteristics according to the installation status of PSD for the external fire in a subway. At this time, the door of the PSD is open until the time when passengers complete their evacuation, and it can be seen that the smoke generated by the train's exterior fire flows into the platform even though the PSD is installed. This showed a difference from the result of previous studies that noted the PSD was shown to have completely blocked smoke from entering the platform. For fires that occur outside the train, PSD installation is effective for passengers to secure evacuation time, as both relative and island platforms have small changes in the RSET and ASET, measured as increases by a large margin. In particular, it is judged to be more effective in securing evacuation time of the passengers, since the increase in ASET in island platforms is larger than that as seen on side platforms.
