Abstract In buildings, there are large openings, such as a driveway to an underground parking lot, through which large amounts of external air can be freely introduced. When external fine dust flows into an indoor space through such an opening, it may be difficult to manage indoor air quality. Therefore, to establish an effective management plan for indoor air quality, it is necessary to analyze the characteristics of fine dust inflow through such large openings. In this study, the possibility of fine dust inflow into the entrance area of the parking lot through the always-open driveway to the underground parking lot was evaluated by measuring the fine dust concentration in the underground parking lot. The effect of vehicle entry on the change in the concentration of fine dust in the entrance area of the parking lot and the possibility of fine dust entering the building was also analyzed. Field measurements were conducted in the underground parking lot of the apartment house without restrictions on vehicles and residents' access. The results of this study are expected to be used to develop strategies to reduce the inflow of fine dust into the interior space of buildings through underground parking lots.
