Abstract Recently, distributed energy sources (DERs) have been increasingly integrated into distribution lines, raising concerns about over voltage issues. Accordingly, issues such as selection of installation locations and parameter settings for step voltage regulator (SVR) are emerging. This paper proposes an efficient method for determining the installation location and line drop compensator (LDC) settings based on load flow in a distribution line with multiple DERs. The proposed method consists of three steps: initial voltage profile analysis, SVR location selection, and LDC parameter setting. It aims to maintain the customers’ voltage close to the nominal value and mitigate voltage violations. The proposed method was verified through various case studies considering constraints in distribution line with multiple photovoltaic (PV) generators, and its effectiveness was proven by the results of case studies.
