He completed Ph.D. coursework in electrical engineering from Chonnam National University, Gwangju, Korea. He has been with Korea Electric Power Cooperation(KEPCO). He is a general manager in Global Business Department Energy Solution Team, KEPCO.

He was a Postdoctoral Researcher with Myongji University, Seoul. He was with the FREEDM Systems Center, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, USA. He is currently a Professor at Chonnam National University, Gwangju, Korea. His current research interests include power quality, distributed energy resources, microgrids, smart grids, and real-time simulation.
