Abstract |
Adsorption refrigeration technology has been attracting much interest as a promising alternative to conventional refrigeration technology thanks to its environmentally-friendly characteristics allowing for use of natural refrigerants and low-temperature heat sources. However, small specific cooling power and low energy efficiency remain for improvement. Recently, coated type absorbers are increasingly investigated as an alternative solution to the problem. In this study, test results for a few hygroscopic polymer-coated heat exchangers are analyzed with an analytical model and results are discussed. It is found that lithium acrylate adsorbent is superior to sodium acrylate adsorbent giving more than twice larger adsorption capacity and mass diffusion coefficients. It is predicted that performance of the adsorber can be significantly improved by increasing area density of the heat exchanger. It is also predicted that the heat exchanger's reduced porosity would not increase vapor-side pressure drop so much as to counteract improved performance. |
