Abstract |
The planned maintenances of plant equipment are carried out based on multiple factors. Usually the scheduled maintenance time is determined based on a predetermined period considering conditions of the equipment, constraints of the production plan, and empirical knowledge regarding the equipment and its current functioning at the plant. The maintenance costs and production losses due to maintenance down times make enormous impacts on a company. However, using empirical knowledge alone cannot ensure that the organization always makes good maintenance decisions, which may be responsible for imposing unnecessary maintenance costs. The MCDM (Multiple-criteria Decision Method) method evaluates multiple conflicting criteria and allows for better decision making on when to schedule machine maintenance. This study was carried out to investigate the application of PROMETHEE II (Preference Ranking Organization METhod for Enrichment II) in evaluating the period of planned maintenance, and to show a better systematic model for better decision making in maintenance planning schemes of an organization to reduce downtime costs and losses. |
