Abstract Electric vehicle charging devices are connected to electric vehicles through connectors. However, the frequent use of these connectors causes damage to devices, such as electrical wear and arc failures. This paper proposed a method for detecting a serial arc failure through the design of an output power terminal filter to stably control the output power voltage and current of a charging device. The steady state and arc failure state characteristics according to the output filter structure were examined via time-domain analysis. A filter was also designed to improve arc failure detection performance. The reliability of the proposed method was verified via analysis and experiments.
