Abstract |
AbstractThis study examines the use of public space in the urban environment based on the theory of mass culture in the megalopolis. Contemporary public space and phenomenon is considered as a symbolic representation of the mass culture organization. In the historical theory, the mass culture was a common tool and low culture in reflecting people's lives through its use as a everyday-life. However, this role of mass culture as high culture and new space design has got its value with the population increase, the centralization of the city and urban common sense. This study attempts to reevaluate the need of public space in modern society through a critical review of mass culture and its use as a space design. Content analysis was used to discuss the topics of this study including the historical background of the mass culture, the relationship between mass culture and space design, the role of public space and its impact on urban environment. The scope of the study is limited to the comparison of mass culture and basic theory of space design in the space critic and sociologist. Today the concept of space is altered with the advent of cyberspace. This study provides insights for the future implications of public place and mass culture in developing public space for its new definition as a cultural representation |
