Abstract Abstract This study propose to analyze the fixed furniture designed by Gwathmey Siegel, and through the analysis, spatial characteristics of the fixed furniture will be understood. The fixed furniture by Gwathmey Siegel, with its unique forms, plays the role of form-creating elements in their interior spaces. Their methods to endow forms to the fixed furniture are based on those of Le Corbusier. However, they not only utilize the methods resourcefully, but also developed those to their own. The design methods developed by them can be summarized as follows: 1) making up for the formal deficiency in storage furniture, such as shelves and cabinets, by applying curved or slanting surfaces to the ends of them; 2) deriving controlled, mild forms by introducing partial circular curves of geometry in the furniture such as sofas and reception desks; and 3) creating completely new forms by combining different kinds of pieces of furniture or elements. Another characteristic of the fixed furniture by them is found in the fact that such unique forms are derived from the result of analyzing architectural problems found when dealing with spaces. Gwathmey Siegel's fixed furniture is designed to play multiple roles as effective furniture, as form-creating elements, as space-dividing elements, and sometimes, as problem-solving equipment
