Abstract |
Architectural space shapes up through continuous contact with exterior environment. There are several elements of exterior environment such as water, light, wind, and sound which express and establish of the domain of architectural space. In these natural elements, water not only confirms architectural identity through diverse activities with architectural works, but establish the organic relationship with architectural space, circumstances, form and character. The characteristics of water in architectural space are attractive elements changing the space by working on human senses of sight, touch and sound. Scrutinizing the meaning of water in architectural space is effective method to understand how consciously affect the period, region, character of space, and the designer`s view of nature architectural space and form. This paper focuses on works of Ando Tadao and James Wines which show wealthy and various design effects of water. The study aims at surveying what is the most important element of water design and what is the background and meaning of water in their works, which have different regional bases of projects activities. |
