A Dynamic Representation Approach of Building Information by Integrating VRML and XML Technologies |
Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to propose an XML-based integration approach when applying VRML technology to visualize building spaces and related information. Architecture, in tradition, has been heavily dependent on visual communication using three dimensional models. Three dimensional digital models provide sophisticated and highly dynamic representation functionalities. VR adds more interactivity and dynamism to the model, and such features are more emphasized in digital remodeling business. The use of this technology, however, remains on the level of another static visualization as happened in previous digital models. In order to exploit the capacity of VR in building industry, the VR model needs to be generated through semantic descriptions of buildings and related information, thus enabling the automatic process of building information throughout the building process. This research proposes BSDL, an XML based document model, to be used to describe building space information. Intended for the development of domain specific VR applications in digital remodeling business, this paper examines the technical and conceptual issues to address, and describes how the BSDL will be applied to generate VR models. |
