Abstract |
Design is inseparably related to aesthetics. In spite of that, it is difficult to explain precisely aesthetic variables to effect on aesthetic value of space or environment. Thereupon, this study intended to find the relationships between aesthetic variables by perceptual and affective judgement for space design. In the findings of research, low level of 'arousing' as well as high levels of 'pleasant' and 'relaxing', which are variables of affective dimension evoke high preference. And high preference is also appeared in space design cases with high unity, order, and clarity, which are variables of perceptual dimension, and??with low contrast and complexity. Complexity, one of variables of preference by Kaplan, is in inverse proportion to space preference. So, space design with high complexity has high level of 'exciting' and 'arousing' affective responses and relatively low level of 'relaxing' response. Additionally, it is confirmed that the most important influencing factor on complexity is diverse components rather than visual richness, ambiguity, and ornamentation. |
