This study aims to investigate the theoretical problems of existing vacant houses and community space, and analyzed how to utilize vacant houses in the UK in order to propose a utilization plan of the existing aged vacant houses as newly renovated spaces in Korea. As a result, Meanwhile, a social enterprise in the UK, mainly provide cultural artists and local residents with renovated spaces of the vacant houses for a period time, and the provided spaces are used as community spaces, commercial spaces, public spaces and multicultural art spaces. All spaces are made up of a variety of programs that can attract a large number of people and serve over two functions in one space, which help people to communicate and activate the surrounding areas. Thus, when renovating a vacant house, accessibility to the space and establishment of a relationship between people and buildings nearby should be considered. In addition, it is necessary to plan for the flexibility of the renovated spaces in order to improve the space utilization. |
